Biography
Hello! Welcome to
the Bjorn Hul site.
Pamella "Pam" Purk, One Stroke Certified Instructor has followed
her artistic interests as a hobby, since her childhood, always
interested in something new and challenging. Decorative
painting, pen and ink oil rouging, watercolor batik on rice
paper, jewelry, and knitting are her most current interests.
She started taking decorative painting/tole painting classes in
the mid 1990's with a variety of teachers and became interested
in the quicker Donna Dewberry One Stroke concept. As her
interest and abilities grew, the opportunity for her to teach
became her motivation to become Certified and teaching has
become her passion. she teaches an average of 40 students each
week in One Stroke Painting techniques and has created a
following of loyal students.
Currently, Pam is the One Stroke Instructor at the Sylvania,
Ohio, Hobby Lobby, since it opened approximately two years ago,
has taught One Stroke in the Adult Education program at Clay
High School in Oregon, Ohio for two years and is completing her
third year teaching at Lenawee Adult Education at the Vo-Tech in
Adrian, Michigan. She also teaches individuals and groups
privately.
Her "Ottawa Lake Ladies" meet on a weekly basis. In addition to
these classes, she teaches daytime classes in watercolor batik
on rice paper, pen and ink oil rouging, knitting, and jewelry
making. She also has taught seminars at the Henry County Arts
Council, in Napoleon, Ohio.
Her greatest joy comes from watching her students grow into
skilled artists. Opening their world to a new life of creativity
and self-confidence is why she says she teaches. She says, "When
students come back to me later and tell me how much they have
learned, I am a little embarrassed, because I enjoy teaching and
sharing so much."
Pam's art work has earned her a best of Show Gold Ribbon entry
into the 2007 Michigan State Fair, as well as First, Second and
Third place ribbons in both the Monroe County and Lenawee County
Fairs. Also, she has won First Place in the final Chair Painting
Contest at the Olde Mill Autumn Festival in Dundee, Michigan and
Best of Show at the Christmas in Ida Festival held in Ida,
Michigan. She most recently had her art displayed in two
galleries in Adrian, Michigan.
She and her husband Frank, are former members of the Northwest
Ohio Artists United and of the Toledo Craftsman's Guild. Trying
to create quality one of a kind art in vast quantities became
exhausting and she said she wasn't having fun anymore. She is
now an active member in the Toledo and Port Clinton chapters of
Society of Decorative painters and enjoys those moments in
expanding her knowledge. Always wanting to find a new way of
incorporating design into her other crafts, she is taking
polymer clay and precious metal clay classes to enhance her
jewelry designs and create beads and buttons for her one of a
kind felted wool purses.
Her current home is in Petersburg, Michigan, which is about 20
miles Northwest of Toledo, Ohio. Home is with her husband Frank,
who is her greatest supporter in creativity. He is an avid train
enthusiast, leaded stained glass artist and budding wood worker.
They have four grown sons and four grandchildren. Their two dogs
Litt Tyv and Litt Kyss allow them to share their farmhouse and
keep a watchful eye on the surrounding fields.
Pam's Norwegian heritage and love of bears was the source of
using the name "Bjorn Hul", which translates Bear Hollow.
